Who Qualifies for the California MyFirstEV Program?
Do I have to be a California resident?
Yes, eligible vehicles must be purchased, delivered and registered in California by qualifying California residents. Thompson's existing page already states this.
Does this program apply to first-time EV buyers?
The program is designed for Californians purchasing or leasing their first ZEV.
Can I lease a vehicle?
Yes—the state's announcement says the incentive applies to Californians buying or leasing their first ZEV.
Can I buy a used EV?
Potentially. The program provides a $1,750 incentive for qualifying used ZEVs sold through manufacturers' pre-owned vehicle programs, subject to eligibility requirements.
Is every EV eligible?
No. Vehicle eligibility and program requirements apply. That last point is particularly important because you don't want the page implying that every EV under $50,000 automatically qualifies.
